About
As a Product Designer, I used to use Autocad and 3D Studio software to portray my design ideas in 3D.
An early Pixar film “Luxo Jr” inspired my move into animation in the early 90′s. However my first animations were actually done at Applecross Senior High School in the early 1980′s as part of a “Special Art Scholarship.” On Saturdays and Wednesdays after school we would attend classes in sculpture, pottery, painting, graphic design and animation. I found myself time and time again choosing animation over the other subjects. We would then go out and produce short stop-motion films using super 8 film cameras. Plasticine, scale models and pixilation (live actors shot in sequential poses) were all the rage then and we had a great time. I remember trying to recreate scenes from Star Wars with my model of the Millennium Falcon and was convinced a career in model-making for films would be a good job. Little did I realise that 20 years later computer generated models would all but replace the model-makers craft. I feel I have come full circle and I’m now doing what I love.
